The Modernist Shop (2011)

We are missing our Northern Quarter gallery and shop a lot, but did you know The Modernist Society opened a pop-up shop / creative project in Salford back in 2011?

In November that year, at 142 Chapel Street, we opened a temporary shop. We invited artists and designers to submit work with an architectural theme and we kept the shop open until Christmas of that year. Prints, posters, etchings and tea towels were all for sale. The glass cabinets were the result of an eBay purchase and a mammoth trip to Leigh on Sea.

A tea towel featuring Salford's Shopping City was an unexpected hit. The illuminated sign was loaned to us by artist Andrea Booker. The success of the shop led us to continue selling publications and artwork.
