Manchester in a Skip (Part 1)
In 2015, Eddy found these photos in a skip. They are a wonderful glimpse of our recent history, initially archived in a carrier bag under his bed, these slide transparencies taken in Manchester in the early 1990s show a pre IRA bomb era when the Arndale was yellow and Marks & Spencer’s had a wavy canopy. The bomb supposedly made way for the redevelopment of the city centre, the re-cladding of the ‘hated’ Arndale Centre and the sad loss of that cheery undulating concrete at Marks & Sparks. The buses may have been orange and Ford Capris were de rigueur but some things aren’t so different. Let’s just say … tram tracks.
